UCSF Fresno
Dr. Anuivir Singh, a graduating UCSF Fresno resident and Doctor’s Academy alumnus, is giving back to the program that first inspired his journey into medicine. This summer, he will join UCSF Fresno’s Department of Emergency Medicine as a faculty member while leading outreach efforts that connect high school students with hand-on healthcare experiences. Through mentorship and pipeline programs, Dr. Singh is helping create new opportunities for the next generation of physicians, especially those from underserved and rural communties.
America SCORES Bay Area
What began as a girls soccer team in D.C. in 2004, has transformed into a national nonprofit that empowers young people through a unique combination of soccer, poetry and service learning. SHINE
While teen birth rates have decreased across California, the Central Valley rates remain among the highest in the state. The Westly Foundation funds SHINE’s Fresno chapter to advance their mission of empowering young mothers to break the cycle of generational poverty by helping them finish high school, persist through higher education, and create strong foundations for their children. New Voters
At age sixteen, disillusioned with the political climate, Jahnavi Rao founded New Voters, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting youth civic leaders across the country. The program facilitates youth conducting original research on youth civic engagement, running voter registration drives, and initiate projects that tackle social and civic issues. Esential Health Access: TeenSource+
Public funding cuts are limiting teens’ access to sexual and reproductive health education and resources. TeenSource+ has created a California-based online resource, designed by youth for youth, to provide teens with accurate, confidential information about sexual and reproductive health, healthy relationships, and their rights to health care. The platform also connects young people with clinics, free resources, educational content, and youth-created stories to help them make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
